The problem I'm having is that the truck has 5/16 fuel line and the V8 is plumbed for 3/8 at the fuel pump. What is the best and safest way to make to make this work? I've talked to people that have done this engine swap, including one guy that has probably done 25 or 30 over the years, and they think I am making to big of a deal over this. "Take the 3/8 rubber line from the fuel pump, clamp it down on the 5/16 steel line from the gas tank and go" What have some of you guys done? I don't want to drop the tank if I don't have to. But I'm inclined to think its not a big deal. You could buy some brass fittings to adapt between 5/16 rubber and 3/8 rubber, but we're only talking about 1/16 difference and your clamp should be able to deal with that unless your hose is way too big in the first place.

You can then slip the 3/8" rubber fuel line over and past the flared area and then clamp with 2 hose clamps. The flare acts kind of like a "safety stop" - there's no way that the fuel line can slip off. Don't clamp ON the flared end, clamp about 1/4" away from it. | | |

If you warm up the end of a piece of 5/16" rubber line in very hot water, it will soften and stretch enough to slip over the 3/8" fitting on the fuel pump, and the clamp will just be a redundant extra precaution. #49655 08/29/2005 6:34 AM | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 90 Member | | Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 90 | you could solder a compression fitting onto your 5/16'' line and put the 3/8'' hose and hose clamp over it and nobody would know. it would all be hidden. or make the change at the fuel pump, one a 3/8'' and one a 5/16''. or as suggested buy a series of brass fittings and put that mess together and connect your hoses together. this seems like it may take three brass fittings and look wierd. or machine (if you have a lathe) a custom piece, or for that matter silver solder or braze a custom steel inline fitting. gooday jim
