I had no luck with three different bearing houses and Napa good find. I am leaving a link to a picture of the bearings inner seal and spindle from my 56. Note the inner bearing has the seal surface built in this was the biggest road block I hit trying to find replacements. http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2442573050096773078zfpYGN | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 3B,
Thanks. I will check out NAPA and others. I should have asked for the inner seal number, too; but, I should be able to find that now.

I'm not saying that these are exactly the same, their just whats listed as interchangable. Hy tclederman, the inner seal number I come up with is National p/n 6785, but my book only goes back to 1955 | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 3B,
Thanks again. You have set me up very nicely. I have not yet purchased the truck - I did not know that larger trucks have roller bearings. My experience is limited to 1/2 ton 47-55 trucks, but that might change in about a month.

You are right about these COE parts. It looks like a 1.5-2 ton COE uses the same bearings as used on the 2 ton SCB (School Bus Chassis). All other sizes from 1/2 ton to 1.5 ton use roller bearings.
Thanks again, Tim | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | I hate to be so politically correct, but just for the record, there were no '47-'55 GMC 1 1/2 ton COE's. They were all 2 ton, & up. 15000lb. gvw '47-'55 Chevy 1 1/2 ton COE's, are very "Rare". Tim, have you found these wheel bearings in stock anywhere yet. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Spanky,
You are not being politically correct - you're correcting and educating, as usual. Thanks.
I will not be able to get GMC info until late Sunday (from our English-man friend), so I am guessing about GMC's from the Chevrolet Master Parts catalog information and the information provided by 3B.
The roller bearings parts are available from NAPA and can be obtain immediately or in a few days, at most. If the 350 GMC's use the roller bearings (I doubt it), I have those part numbers and those parts are also available.
Finding a military-style (or other style) tow-bar is the last piece of the puzzle in getting that COE from the west coast to NY.

It's been more than a year sense I installed Tim's front wheel bearings, but I think they are bigger/different than your 4400 wheel bearings. Tim's COE is a good bit bigger and heavier than even a 2 ton Chevy, and you have a 1.5 ton which I believe has even smaller/different wheel bearings than the 2 ton.
All just guesses on my part.. A parts manual will let you know for sure.
Take your old bearings to NAPA and see if they can get them. And or call "chevyb" and see if he has them in stock, he'll have a pretty good idea what you need just from your year and model number.
