I stumbled across an interesting web site recently about an EFI that does NOT control the ignition. You can use your stock distributor or anything else besides an MSD. For about $230 you get a kit that you assemble yourself, including a simulator for diagnostics and testing. However, it is up to you to find correct injectors, plumb them, and arrange the rest of the fuel system.

I need to do a LOT more research on this but it appears at first glance to be something neat I could put on my 261. Please post if you are familiar with this setup--good or bad. Go to the MegaSquirt website at www.msefi.com.

i have looked at it, but not used it yet. it is a good system from what i understand. i have considered using it to replace my carb when i get my '59 up and running. it should help the gas milage out some.

I have a friend who purchased a similar if not the same system for a dodge colt he put an all wheel drive system and a turbo charged Talon motor in, it works great. Hope that gives you more confidence..

I just found something interesting about the new google search engine link to this site. It doesn't work.

Several months ago someone posted info about mega squirt and offered help to anyone wanting to build one. So I searched the site. Nothing about megasquirt or mega squirt. Then I tried efi. The only thing that came up was a truck in the gallery.

Now I know this thread mentions both. It's a shame the search feature has been turned over to a site that only directs you to paid ads. But they did direct me to this. Assembled Mega Squirt kits.

I wish someone would get one going for an inline six and post a website with how-to and pics. I'd like to do one on my 248.

It told me about MAP, PBC, ADC, kilopascals, LVI trip point, WARMCOR variable, and other such stuff but doesn't tell me what the crap they are. It mainly talks about building the computer. I couldn't find anything about what to hook it up to. Or what to use for a throttle body for a 6 cylinder engine. I did see where a lot of people have used them on V-8s. Sounds like I'd have to go to certified EFI technician school to be able to pull this off.

I have built mine but haven't installed yet. My '51 is still 6 Volt so have decided to put it on my brothers '85 Dodge.

It's a lot easier to use junkyard GM parts and build an EFI system - you can do that without controlling timing.
