Hello:
This is a new post on an old topic and a plea for help!!
I saw some time ago a site that someone had carefully prepared that listed widths (brake drum face to brake drum face) of a lot of different makes of rear ends. I would love to see it again if any one can advise me were to locate it. I am looking for a rear end (open drive shaft) to go under a 51 AD 1/2 ton

Ter - If you're trying to stay 6 lug a 55,56,57 work well but most of them are 3.90 gears. If you don't mind 5 lug, S10 4x4 rears work with a large asst of gears available. There is a good list in the tech tip page either on this site or on inliners.

Someone suggested to me that a full size Jeep Wagoneer rear end could be a narrow width... should be lots around and lots of different ratios too. I wlil take a look at the tech tip page

I got a 65 1/2 ton rear under mine. It measured 61-1/2 " and is 6 lug. Fits great.

I have a 60 Impala rearend under my 37. I think it is 54 1/2 which is within a half inch of a 64-72 Chevelle/Nova/Camaro. I would stay away from S-10 rear ends as they have a 7.5 ring gear which is very weak. Opt for a 8.5 inch ring gear from a 71 up GM. I realize car rears are 5 lug but it shouldn't be a big deal to redrill the axles or use adapters. Car rears just tend to be narrower. Later
