Remove the clamp from the dash. After thats loose take the three or four bolts (can't remember how many) that hold the steering box to the frame off then slide it out. That should be all best as I can remember.

If this is an Advance Design truck the column does not separate from the box in a way that can be reasembled. Its better to remove the box from the frame and pull the column out the bottom.
The only time I've removed a body without first removing the column I removed the body one piece at time using a sawzall, and that's probably not what you have in mind.

If this question is about the 49 panel in your profile, then you must remove the steering wheel, upper columb support, the horn wire, the floor trim piece, and then you can either remove the pitman arm from the steering box, or the drag link from the pitman arm. then remove the bolts which hold the steering box to the frame, and remove the steering box out from under the truck. You will have to jack the truck up quite a bit to get it out, hope that helps, and Happy New Year | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 23 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 23 | THANKS GUYS FOR THE GREAT INFORMATION I WILL DO IT ON FRIDAY

If you really want to you can remove the body from around the column, this is how I've done it before, but the body has to go up pretty high and you have to have everything just right, and move the truck forward or body back as you go up.

I have one more addition to the "how to" list: If the engine is still in the truck, you will need to remove the driver front wheel and also remove the inner fender panel to get the column out. That's what I had to do on my '48 1 ton pickup. | | |
