Kind of hard to tell from the picture. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,629 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,629 | Looks like my 58 color scheme. an additional problem with the Internet display of scanned images of color chips is that the color is often distorted by the limitations of color rendition over the Internet
an additional problem with the display of scanned images of color chips is the quality of the computer's video adapter and monitor, and the monitor's color-rendition adjustments
The color of the truck at oldno3fan's link looks more like Tartan Turquoise than Dawn Blue (on the page of 1957 chips posted above). Modern color codes should be available for Tartan Turquoise (PPG can match the old Ditzler code - it looks like 11807). No one really really knows what original Tartan Turquoise looked like, so, if you like it, go for it.

The Dupont Dulux code for Tartan Turquoise in 1957/58 is 93-75034

I had them mix 2 gallons of Tartan Turqoise (Lesonal single stage urethane) from the code and THIS is what I got. It looks a lot like the chip color, but nothing like the color in the picture of the truck in the gallery. My picture was taken near a 60 watt light bulb so the paint color appears a little more yellow than in normal sun light, but it is pretty close. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 | dawn blue box My box is close to the cab but not quite the same. I do not know what the colour of the cab is. I had some tartan turquoise mixed from looking at the previous sheet and it was a different colour than what shows on the sheet. I still can not figure out what colour my cab is. I had 1/2 pints in enamel mixed to compare, less than 10$ each. | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 136 | I am getting the NAPA to come out and scan the door on the truck and tell me what I have. I'll see how that works. He is showing up Friday if we are shovelled out by then. | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 56 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 56 | Hello all, Grant here from Wisconsin. I too am facing the problem of color matches. My 59 Apache 3100 has the factory paint code of 707A, which translates to Dawn. However, cleansing of the rear lower cab steel looks more to be Tartan Turq. The color that it is currently painted, which I'm told by seller was done in 1981, definitely looks to be an older faded Dawn. VERY CURIOUS to me!!! The underside area of firewall looks lighter too. The insides of door window frame looks to be Dawn. I want to take a moment to thank all of you who are providing this wonderful data and visuals. Grant. | | |
