Truckernix, do you have or do you know where I can get a speaker for a AD slant back radio. I have a straight back in my 53 and just came upon the slant back, I had the speaker reconed but that didn't cure the problem.

Thanks,

Ron

It has been my experience that a low cost modern 5x7 speaker will fit the slant back radio. Around here you can buy them at Walmart for about $15. I have several if you are stuck. I think most of the specialty vendors carry them but I don't know the price.

truckernix, have you actually used one of these speakers in a slant back AD radio and it worked? It is my understanding that the speaker in a slant back is different than a straight back, not just in shape but, internal workings. If you have one and it will work in a slant back, I want it!

Please e-mail me at roncoff@ca.rr.com

Thanks,

Ron

AD_Pickup,
there is nothing special about the speaker in either radio. I have used the new speakers in several slant back versions. The difference between the two radios with regards to the speakers is that there is less depth for a speaker to fit in the straight back version. The original spaeakers had a magnet with a smaller diameter but the new speakers that I have seen have a much larger magnet and the frame of the speaker, being at a different angle will not fit inside the straight back version. However, Denny Graham was able to make a new speaker from one of the vendors fit into a straight back model.

By the way, what was the problem that you experienced with your speaker after it had a new cone installed?

I will send you an Email.

Don’t know how much different the slant back is.
