Welcome to the SVFD Virtual Firehouse -- another new forum on the Grassy Knoll for December.

It seems like we've had some interest in these specialty 'Bolts lately (or is it just me...?) so here's our chance to discuss firebolts and anything related to them. Questions? Bring 'em on -- we have a lot of firefighters on the 'Bolt so somebody ought to know something about whatever it is.

John , Thanks for creating a special nitch for those of us that are into the Firetruck side of Stovebolts . I guess I've got to scan down the web page a little more often as I missed this thread.

I'm Bill Bailey- captain with the Virginia Beach Fire Dept(career since 1995), I'm the 6th District Vice President of the Virginia Professional Firefighters(A IAFF Union) and I own the Thalia Fire Department's 1951 Chevy/Oren Fire truck.

Without the Stovebolt site, my rig would still be sitting outside a NC fire station rusting away. Thank you Stovebolt members for always being there to help!

I am Dennis Darouse in Hammond, Louisiana with a 1941 Chevrolet/American LaFrance Fire Truck. We use it for Christmas, Fesitvals, and Mardi Gras parades (as well as anything else we can put it on the road for). When I retired as the Asst. Fire Chief in Hammond I felt I needed my own truck and found this one. It is originally from Magnolia Ms. (about 60 miles from here and where my parents ran away to get married).

I do not score high on the mechanics meter but I am having fun with her.

I'm Larry from western Virginia. Our family has a 1958 Chevrolet/Oren Fire Truck. We Have taken it to parades and to Musters. We had a bad spring as a huge tree fell across our garage and did a lot of damage to the firetruck. Made firewood of the building and totally ruined a 64 Impala. The building has been rebuilt and the firetruck repaired. No insurance on the antique car.
I have never been in a fire department. I spent my career operating boilers. The main objective was to keep the fire going.

Welcome to the Fire House!! With you and Bill we have some adult leadership in here I'm not welcoming the others because they've been here for awhile and it's about time they showed up at the fire house and did something useful

Would you like to send me a hi-rez image of your truck for the Stovebolt VFD Calendar?? I need at least 200 dpi and 17.5 inches wide (it will be a huge digital image!). I'll need some details about the truck, too (pump, tank size, other pertinent facts)

Oh yeah, and by the way, other than attending the Navy's shipboard fire fighting school at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1985, I have no fire fighting training or experience. I am a big supporter and fan of first responders, though -- both Fire/EMS and Law enforcement and have both in the family.

Hi everyone I would like to introduce my self, my name is Joe B. and I am from massachusetts. Last year I bought a 1950 chevy 6400 fire truck from Missouri. Some of you guys know this truck it was in service with the Qulin Fire District. I will work on getting a picture to the gallery. I was a little upset with how the front mounted pump was installed so I removed it. I have changed my mind and would like to keep it a fire truck. I need some ideas on how to run the drive shaft from the front pulley to the pump. Previously any clearence issue was delt with the cutting torch which resulted in very crude workmanship.

From my experiance, a cutting torch was the first tool used anytime a firetruck needed to be modified. Crude doesn't begin the discribe the damage I've found on old rigs...

As for your drive shaft issue, find somebody who has a truck like yours and take a look with pictures, inperson or in an old manual.

As much as we want to think our trucks are one of a kind, somebody out there has one just like ours. Those folks are always willing to help you out.
