getting back to work on the old 54 and i got my front springs back from the machine shop getting new bushings and shackles made.and things are starting to go back together and i was putting the axel up under the springs. then i noticed the driver side has a shim on the bottom of the leaf and the passenger side doesnt.my question is is that shim supposed to be there or not i looked at the bottom of the leaf and the marks look just like the axel.
if it is to be there does anyone have a extra shim

| | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | Those shims adjust the caster. You want the kingpin to tilt back slightly, and using wedge shims between the axle and spring is how you adjust it.
You need to assemble the truck and check the alignment to know for sure whether you need one or not.
