OK. On the 700R4 ( From a 1987 C1500 2WD truck. ) If you are looking down on the transmission from the top, there is a 4 prong electrical plug. What the heck is it for?

Also, I may go back and lick this calf again. I am now thinking of selling the 700R4 and instead puting in a 5 speed manual trans. In a 1965 C-10 that orriginally had the 230 engine with 3 speed manual trans, What newer 5 speed would bolt up without any change to the flywheel / pressure plate / clutch disc? ( IF any exist! ) The flywheel & clutch that came out of this truck is nearly new.

If I do procede with the auto, they will be on e-bay!

This is the hookup for the converter lockup. Acually only uses 1 prong. You don't have to use the lockup but there are many kits available to hook it up. The 5 speed from a S-10 is the most popular manual trans. swap. You will have to change the clutch disc though. There is a lot of info on the net about the 700-4r. There is a lot of info on this websight about the S-10 T-5 swap. You didn't say what engine you are running now. The T-5 is light duty. If you are going to do burn outs & speed shifting it is not the trans. of choice.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The engine is a GM Industrial 250 out of a Gleaner K2 combine.
( Industrial engines used a gear drive timing instead of a timing chain, a higher flow oil pump, and 8.5:1 compression pistons vs. 8.1:1 compression on automotive engines.)
This engine is being completly rebuilt with ported & pollished head.
We are installing a 2 bbl. carb and quite possibally an exhaust header. The exhaust will be 2" with glasspack and chrome 3" outlet. Not shure what kind of HP or TQ this little setup will put out, but it is bound to be better than the 230 ( Bored .040 over to make it 235ci. ) with a 1 bbl. carb put out.

I will research more on the S-10 transmission. I am quite shure I know where one is at. Not shure if it is mechanical or hydraulic clutch though.

This will not be hot-roded. It will be a daily driver, as well as a working farm truck. Not pulling anything, just riding around from one crop field to the other.

Anyone have any Ideas on how else to set the exhaust system up to make it sound really sweet?

And thank you for the reply Wrenchbender.

You will also need to modify the driveshaft and use the newer fine spline input yoke. The T-5 is about 5" longer that the factory 3 speed. Your 65 should have mechanical clutch linkage.

I like a steel pack bottle muffler and my pipe exits just forward of the left rear wheel. I love the sound!

I would look into a getrag 5-speed from a 4.3 S-10 vs the T5. It is a little stronger, and will come with everything you need to couple it to the 250

if you keep the 700R4, a simple brake switch, vacuum switch and O/C on-of switch are all that you need to control it.
