If I remember right,the oil pans are different.The early oil pan flanges curves around to straight line(the surface where the gasket is). The later 1955 pan one side curves around and jogs at an angle before it goes straight(the surface where the gasket is).I believe if you got the correct year of 235,it will match the 261 oil pan. Lets see what the experts have to say.
Correct me if i'm wrong .

Just looked and the pan has the curved oil pan flange on one side (front right)...seems to be the later model 55 (261)?
Thanks... maybe someone has used a 235 oil pan and can help out.
Has anyone been able to find new oil pans for the stovebolts?

Keep in mind the oil pumps are totally different between the two.
1954-early 1955 oil pump = m29
late 1955-1962 oil pump m45
