When I converted my 55.1 panel to 12v years ago I didn't even think about the gauges. I just put a 12v coil, voltage regulator & 12v bulbs in it then put over 100K on it without problems. The gauges never had a problem & worked OK the whole time I owned it. Is that saying you'll never have a problem? Nope, but I never did.

He's not the only one who just put the 12V to the old gas guage with no problems. It will still read correctly to because of the oposing coils in the guage. Granted, there's a little more current flowing in both coils but the whole thing operates on just a few milliamps (very small amount of current). | | |
