The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop No More Torque Tube!

I have 51 chevy 1/2 ton that has a 235 engine with a 4 on the floor. Thing is that I dont want the torque tube because of the fact that is has really low gears and I would to like to change it out for a later model rear end.

Any trans/diff combos that would work fine with the 235? I also have a spare 250 engine with trans(don't know what kind) off of a 79 chevy van. Plus a rear end off of a 1987 chevy truck 1/2 ton.

Would any of these parts work together? Thanx in advance

I've got a halfton rearend from the late 70's that has 6 lugs and a 3.07:1 ratio, which will allow me to use my 4 speed with moderate hwy cruising speeds. This seems to be a popular pick.

80's Camaro/Firebird/Nova rears seem to be a popular choice because of width and available ratios.
