I've got a 54 chev 1/2 with a shot 350 in it. Has the usual steering box and spark plug conflict with the offset to the right side .
Also have an 84 olds 98 with a 79 350 olds and th2004r tranny, engine is decomputerized, works good, car's body is the rust queen of the universe. Will the olds set-up go in the 54 chev p.u. and still have the steering box conflict?

V6Jimmy,
Thanks for the info. From reading these threads I know that you know. Again thanks for saving me a lot of trouble. Guess I'll fix the SB and get a steering kit of some kind.

you can use a 73 to 80 steering sector by mounting it out in front of the axle this will give you enough clearance to use the olds engine you will have to fabricate a shaft from the column to the steering box i have seen it in a couple of magazines looks like it works pretty good.if you put the olds engine in your truck you wont wanna go back to small blocks.

At one time I had a 71 Olds Cutlass with a 350/TH350 combo and an 80 El Camino with a 229 V6. Around the time that I had had enough of the V6 in the Elky, my father-in-law decided to drive the Cutlass into a parked car. Fortunately it was at low speed, it wasn't a direct hit and no one was any worse for wear except for the parked import...and a little fender, headlight and grill damage on the Olds.

Well, I got the Olds back and came about THAT close to dropping its motor and trans into the El Camino. Instead, I came across a Malibu with a 400 smallblock and used that. It's still running fine.

But I wish I would have kept that Olds motor. There's a real good chance it would have ended up in my 63 Nova or 64 C10. I think it would be a great swap and you should love the OD on the TH200-4R. It would also be an unusual swap, yet in the spirit of the "traditional hot rods" that used Olds, Caddy or Buick V8s. Man! It makes me wanna go out and find a Rocket or Nailhead motor.

Yeah, I can remember Olds and Caddy swaps in 49 F*rds and such, like 50 Merc Club Coupe. Remember the Olds "Flipper Hubcaps", cool.

I've got a nice ol' 72 Nova, 4 dr., with a 427BB and TH400 in it, alligatored faded blue and rust color, balanced engine, 2.73 rearend. From about 15 mph on up, ah the 1-2 shift on a th400, it seems to eat anything that eats rice or knackwurst, 'cepting big Porsches. The doors are getting harder to open and close though. Oh well.

Probably will do the olds and th200r4 swap and use what V6Jimmy said about a newer steering box and shaft [censored]'y, been gathering parts for it over last weekend.

Kool, Harry. Take a puncha pics and keep us posted on it. I'd love to see the results.

Yeah, I remember the old hubcap deal. The Dodge 4-bar spinners and the 58 Caddy caps that sorta looked like Queen Elizabeth's crown jewels. smile But they were just right for a chopped 49 Merc.

Them's was the daze.
