It will run as long as I keep pouring gas into the carb. I unscrewed the line at the carb from the fuel pump and turned the engine over nice big blast of gas. I guess I have narrowed it to the carb but this is where i need help. I know nothing about carbs. Why is the carb fuel starved? Does it need totally rebuilt? thank you so much for the advice. Chris | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,763 Carburetion specialist | | Carburetion specialist Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,763 | From your description, I would guess that either the float is stuck in the closed position or the fuel valve is stuck in the closed position. This is quite common with a vehicle that has sat unused for some time and modern fuel. When modern fuel evaporates, it leaves a gummy goo that glues things together. Disassembly, a good cleaning, and reassembly with a new rebuilding kit should correct the issue.

That carb has a filter in the inlet. Get a 1 in. wrench & hold the fiting & remove the tube. Remove the fitting & it should have a small filter behind it. It may be plugged up.

I last used my rototiller in July. I had put fresh gas in it then, but when I tried to start it up last weekend I found that it wouldn't start. I found little balls of goo in the carb. Some fresh gas and a quick clean-out of the jets and she's running again.
