For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 32 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 32 | I have a 1947 Chevy COE and of course it has big drum brakes all around. I was wondering if I purchased the power brake conversion system from Bowtie that has the corvette master and booster on it, could I then eliminate the HYDRA UNIT that is on the side frame rail of the truck? Thanks in advance for any help, Roy | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Roy Esslinger, yes adapting that setup would allow you to eliminate the hydrovac, I've never done this conversion on a cabover, there may be special clearance issues, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 32 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 32 | I am so glad you told me that. I know the hydravac unit is a good one but I really didnt want to use it. It looks like there wont be any problems with clearance either. BowTie claims theirs is a complete bolt on application with the exception of re-routing a few lines. Thanks so much for your help. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 863 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 863 | What size of master cylinder works best with the ton and a half dumptrucks? I'm looking at doing something similar.... | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | I agree, that sounds like a good plan. But be sure you use a large enough master cylinder. Whatever the bore of the stock one is is about what you want for the new replacement. I fear that the ones sold with the kit won't be big enough.
Not entirely relevant, as I have large disc brakes on my truck, but my system needed a 1.625" bore MC, a good bit larger than what would have come in a "kit" designed for the smaller trucks.
Do some checking and measuring first.
