Any north carolina bolters know of junk yards that may have 51-53 chevy trucks. i don't mind driving.

From what I've seen, anything from around here that's been sitting outside for 40+ years is going to be pretty rusted. I couldn't justify the money and time to get something that needed a lot of work so I gave up looking. Some larger mechanical components are okay but sheetmetal...

I buy everything from yards out west and have been very pleased with the price and condition I've gotten from Mother Truckers, Jimbo and Jay in the swap meet section of this site.

There used to be a place on Highway 49 south of Asheboro called Richard's Vintage Auto Salvage, I don't remember if he is still open or not.

I have his number around here somewhere, and if I find it I'll post it on here. If you go, wear long pants and steel toed boots. The yard is on a rather steep grade, and its full of gullies. Also, everything there is fairly well picked over or it is so badly rusted, it turns to dust when you touch it.

thanks for the replies. i haven't had much luck around here with salvage yards. it seems to be cheaper to buy new parts or wait for the swap meet at lowes motorspeedway in april.

The Place south of Asheboro on NC49 is closed big time! I heard the owner has legal trouble of some kind. He did have some older stuff but he wanted an arm and a leg.

Czechman is right, the sheet metal is usually pretty rusty.

Ervin Rigsbee of Rigsbee Auto Parts in Raleigh has a few old trucks for parts at his Highway 64 East location. I have purchased a few task force Chev. parts from him. He keeps most of his old trucks in the back pasture area of his farm just behind his salvage place. At that time, about 7 years ago, he had an LCF task force fuel delivery truck plus several others. He may have earlier trucks available also. Ask for Ervin himself at tel.#919-266-3333.
Another source is "Junebug" Greens Salvage in eastern NC. Most of his salvage is early heavy trucks, but he may have light trucks also. I have not dealt with him but I understand he has ALOT of trucks!! I don't have his tel. number.

Google Maps said that it is just south of Wilson. You said that most of his stuff is early heavy trucks, do you think he would have any "coupe cab" White's such as a WC-22, WC-24 or early 4000 or 9000 series trucks?

Yep that's the place. I've not been there but I have heard from others that he has old trucks of all types and sizes, especially early diesels, Whites included. By the way I have a 1965 White 9000 'coupe' cab tandem axle tractor with a 250 Cummins, RT910, 34,000 Eaton rears, plus a factory new 'coupe' cab that I purchased 20 years ago. A project for the future, I'll post pictures of it soon. JAMES
