54 has new cam and timing gear (its correct). Engine is timed, new battery, points, starter. Starts cold, runs fine, drags and does not want to start when first shut off. Will start 15 min. later. Any ideas HELP
I take it its still 6 volts. Use #1 gauge or larger battery cables. Run the ground to the engine or trans. Make shure all connections are clean & tight & lock washers where cable eyes hook up. Make shure there is a good ground cable between the engine & frame.

I'll third those suggestions! Do some research and try for even 0 or 00 cables if possible. Tractor Supply has larger cables and ends, a welding supply can fab them also.
Another (more expensive) improvement is a 4-coil starter.
