Hello everyone. I'm a retired GI thats attending the auto mechancis class at my local community tech college. I'm rebuilding the 235 engine in my 59 Chev 1/2 ton. The crank is out of tolerance. But that's easy, I'm sending that to be ground. But the cam lobes are worn and starting to pit on the edges. I called the supplier my instructor usually uses. They can get me a new cam, but it doesn't come with the followers or lifters. The guy said they haven't made those lifters in about 5 years. Could anyone recommend a trusted and good quality source of a new cam with followers and lifters?

I got my cam from

http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/

Phil is the owner's son I believe and he is very enthusiatic about inline 6 engines. I have found that everyone has their opinion and he is no different, but he did not steer me wrong.

Hi Elevenbravo81,
RockAuto has camshafts and pushrods: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?a=G-autoparts
Performance Auto Warehouse has the hydraulic lifters for your truck: https://secure.pawengineparts.com/shoppingcart/ShowItem.cfm?itemid=8144&catid=682

I hope this helps.
Samantha

Didn't the later 235's in trucks, such as the 59 use hydraulic lifters?

Not according to the shop manual, specs are still listed for solids. V8s were hydraulic, though.

As Bill stated above, all truck 216/235/261 engines had mechanical (solid) lifters.

How much swappin' around of different can be done and is it benificial? The early power glide cams seemed to offer a little more power than those in the trucks. Using a solid lifter with a hydralic cam shouldn't present any problems, I wouldn't go the other way around though.
Does Patrick's offer stock cams besides the performace cams they sell?
