I think the only mounting difference from one GM truck gearbox to another would be the pilot hole in the bellhousing needs to be bigger for the later transmissions.you won't run into that problem until probably the late '60's transmissions though. Bedides,going to a newer engine,the pilot hole would be bigger than needed,if anything,so you might need to make a shim to fit around the front seal retainer on your stock tranny,and to fit the inside diameter of the newer bellhousing.I'd have it cut to be a tight fit onto the seal retainer,and install it with a little red Loctite. While you're in there,why not replace the front seal;cheap insurance,might save a clutch.
