Hey guys,
Does anyone out there know what the gear ratio would be in a 62 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4?
This is a parts truck and I am considering using the transfer case and axles to convert my 52 3/4 ton to 4 wheel drive.
Thanks for any help

4.11 or 4.56 cant remember wich one was standerd but think it was 4.11 on the 1/2 tons
those axles will be a hare wide but if you use offset wheels it should look pretty good

It appears the '62 GMC 4x4 (K-1000) used a 3.92 ratio. Check this page.

Thanks for the info...that page has some great information. As far as width, the rear axle on the GMC is slightly narrower than my stock 3/4 ton rear measuring to the outside of the tires.
Haven't checked the front axle width yet.

outside of tire measurements are potentially misleading. the 4x4 boards i'm on use wms-wms numbers, which eliminates the offset and width of the wheel. wms = wheel mounting surface

i've kicked around taking axles from a more modern 4x4 to convert my 52 3/4 ton too, and one of the issues is spring perch width. the frame on the AD is different width than the donor axles, and the donors are wider overall.

something else to consider is the end use of the truck. if you want to go wheeling, the travel before hitting the bump stops is pretty small. for just tooling around and the odd fire road it won't be an issue.
