has anybody ever used a stitch welder from eastwood or something similar? it hooks up to an arc welder. for patch panels. ccb

| | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 403 | I agree with Michael1964 that your money would be better spent on a Mig Unit such as a Miller, Lincoin or a Hobart unit in the 125 to 140 Amp. range. I also would prefer the 240 volt units. When using a Mig unit there is zero slag problems to deal with if you use shielding gas instead of flux core wire. Much nicer looking welds. You can stitch weld your material to lessen the heat and warping problems. Be sure to spot weld your material together first. Stitch welding is a form of welding a piece of material in different spots to keep the heat from warping the material with solid welding bead. The use of Copper backup bars to keep from burning through along with a product called Heet Fence placed along the side of the edges to be welded approxmately 1/4" away to keep the heat from warping your weld area is highly recomended.
