I have Patricks mild 254 grind cam in my late 235 engine. The paper that came with it said: Lash .012. It can't be .012 for both intake and exhaust can it? I had called Patrick and they really didn't know and told me to set them at .06 and .13.
Anyone out there have this cam and can tell me what the real number should be? Cecil..........

That's a Delta cam grind. They call it their RV cam, as it pulls like a train uphill.
I got it in my 261 and it's my favorite grind for the street and highways with 3.55 rear and no overdrive.

Delta recommends .012 for both intake and exhaust for initial break in.
After that you can adjust the exhaust to .014 (or looser for heavy loads) and the intake as tight as .008 or even .006 like Chevy did, since the intake valves are so far from the spark plugs and don't heat up as much as the exhaust valves.

A bit much cam for an unmodified stock 235, but gets great performance with dual carbs, headers, milled 848 head, bored cylinders and a hotter spark.
An excellent grind giving plenty of bottom end torque holding steady up to 2500-3000 rpm.
HP curve peaks around 4000-4500 rpm.

The lash specification can be anything the cam grinder wants it to be. The "acceleration ramp" is an area of slow, gradual lift designed to stack all the valve train parts together solidly before the lobe actually starts lifting the valve off the seat at a much faster rate. The same holds true on closing, with a quick deceleration to almost closed, then a gentle drop onto the seat to prevent battering the valve and a further slow drop to reestablish the lash.

It's possible to "map" a cam with a dial indicator and a degree wheel, and discover the lash settings, even if no specifications are available. I do it with race cams all the time.
