For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 6 | I'm going to be getting one from my brother in law. Can someone post the exterior deminsions and approximate weight for a '66 c-10 fleetside longbed? I need to reconfigure the garage! The truck has a 283 originally. Which trannies did these come with? The driveline needs rebuilt, and the tranny in it is a floorshift. I'm thinking it's not original. Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | These comments are just from memory. I believe the C 10s came with a three on the tree or an automatic.I cannot remember any three speed floor shifts. I imagine a 4 speed floor shift was an option, although I am not sure about that.Hope this helps. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,756 | 4 speed floor, with the granny gear was a option. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,971 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,971 | Unless it is a conversion/ speed shifter for a 3-speed the floor shift is an SM-420 4-speed HD truck trans. They also came with 2 versions of 3-speed column shift and an automatic. I don't remember now if the 2-speed Powerglide was still used in 66 or if they were all 3-sped THM 350's. Good luck with it. My 1st pickup was a 66 C10 longbed fleetside with 250-6 and 3-speed. Wish I stll had it!

Automatics were the 2 speed Powerglide, and the 4 speed TH-400. The way to tell if the shifter was originally there is to look at the height of the hump in the floor.
A factory 3 speed truck will have a hump that is only about 6" high, and the factory 4 speed trucks will have a hump that is 8"-10" high, I'm not sure about the automatics.
The truck is 79" wide at the door handles, and 207" from bumper to bumper. The shipping weight is 3500 lbs, so drivable would be close to 4000 lbs.
Your engine options are the 250 and 292 Inline-6, the 283 V-8 and the 327 V-8.
The standard issue rear axle was a non-Posi 3.73. The options were a Posi 3.73 or 4.11 and a non-Posi 3.07 or 4.11.
A big help for me when I first got my '66 was ordering the Restoration Package from Chevrolet and you'll definitely need the 1963 service manual, and the 1966 service manual supplement. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 6 | Thanks for the imput guys!
