I have never seen one run off the distributor as was the case with early corvettes. The first 'vettes also ran off the generator so that is where I'd look. If you find a cable and drive for the generator setup, you have to make sure the water pump and generator pulley sizes are correct, or the tach won't show the proper engine speed.
