I got the dash back in but can't figure out how the cowl vent lever connects. There is a piece of metal coming from the vent with a slot in the center and a tab on the end. There is also a similar piece (slot & tab) on the lever assembly. How do the two hook together?

Those go together washboard to washboard. Put a small bolt or machine screw through the slot with a washer & nut. Adjust to where the vent is fully closed when the lever is in the closed position & tighten the nut.
