Unfortunetly, I did not think to take a look at, much less tie into my distributor before i put it in. Now, I only have about one or two inches between it and the firewall. As you can see, I no longer have much space to work with. Am I in need of a special connector, or will it be something like This? If it is something like that, what size will it need to be? Thanks for any help. | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | Don, Im asssuming as I cannott see in the pic that it is a HEI dist.?? If so ..there are connectors for that you can get at NAPA ...or your local FLAPS..they have a keeper made on the side that locks the connector in place when you push em in the bottem of the dist. or get 2 at a local junk yard. Now, is there a name for this connector? have asked at the local NAPA and only got blank stares.

Yes, you can use the item pictured as 'this' in .250...which of course is 1/4". They just shove on and will hold tight. As Tim notes, I think there is a connector available but the 1/4" quick connects will work fine.
I have heard the primary lead wire, which is from key to coil must be 10 gauge for these HEI units. I ran one for years and didn't use a wire that large and had no problems.
The quick disconnect tab you have pictured won't accommodate a full 10 gauge wire, it's too small. The 'yellow' disconnect that will accept a 10 gauge wire might be too large to stick up into the HEI cavity and will be too large for the tab! You might have to improvise!

All the wires are the same color (Pink), and they all used the same connector for any coil-in-cap distributor, 4, 6, or 8 cylinder. Just splice it into your existing hot wire from the ignition switch, or do a soldered connection and cover it with shrink tubing if you don't want an obvious splice. Jerry
