What my problem is,they only list one and i'm guessing it fits both under bed tanks and in-cab tanks but I'm not sure.I have the tank under the bed.

While I don't know for sure, my guess is that the sender listed is for the conventional tank, in the cab behind the seat. If you have a tank under the bed, could it have been a special option, or more likely a feature added by some previous owner.

It works part of the way up but then quits working at about 1/4 full.

How interesting. I thought all the cabs had fuel fill holes and in cab tanks regardless of GVW. My 4400 has the in-cab tank.
It sure would be a first step to drop the tank and inspect the sending unit. Sometimes a cleaning and a little more tension on the wiper will make them work again.
That would also allow you to see it up close and determine if the one listed in the catalogs might fit.

The gas tank was moved into the cab in 1949.
