I was wondering if there is an adapter for this swap that allows you to use the enclosed drive shaft on 54 1/2 ton chevy if i have a later model motor(58-61)235. Plus does anyone know what the ratio on the stock rear end is?

Don't know of an adapter for what you want to do, maybe someone else will chime in on that one. The '54 1/2 tons had a 3.90:1 gear. You can check it out yourself by using the tech tips link above and clicking on "Old Online Chevy Manuals", then go to the Restoration Packs/Specifications section for your vehicle.

Good luck on your project.

ok cool-I have heard of these adapters but never seen one. Alot of the hot rodders that use new trannys with old rear ends use them.

With as many late model differentials available with relatively low mileage, you might be way ahead to just open up the driveline. The T5 swap is not rocket science and the open driveshaft/differential is just a natural progression. I've got pictures and documentation of the process in my webshots album. Check it out and see if it might be something that would work for you.
