It depends on which 235 you and the seller are referring to.

It should bolt to any head but the intake port diameters changed over the years. The 216 and early 235s had smaller head-to-intake-manifold port diameters. Some people have posted that they have used an older intake manifold with the newer 235/261 heads.

Also, I think the distance between the carburetor bolts on a 216 and a later 235/261 (1954-1962/63) is different. Since 235s were available from 41-62, most likely the seller is talking about an earlier 235. I do not know when the 235 carb-bolt distance changed (maybe in 1950).

Ask for a measurement of center-to-center carb-bolt distance and compare it to yours (if this is important to you and your carbs).

I believe that the bolt pattern for the heat riser flange is also different between the early and later manifolds. Here are links to images of the heat riser flange gaskets in the Chevs of the 40s catalog for the early (216, pre-1950 235) and late engines. Has anyone ever attached a late model exhaust manifold to an early intake manifold? All that i have put together have been late 235s and 261s.

the intake i speak of is a Thickstun "dogbone". im beginning to think that it will have smaller ports, but all in all i wonder if with it having smaller ports will that have a negative enuff effect on the performance of my 261 to warrant not getting it. the 261 when built will not be stock by any means. to me if i do get the intake, it would be the perfect crowning visual touch to the motor. but of course it aint worth doodley if it dont work correctly. the carbs that come with the intake are Holley, 1808's.?.1908's ? something to that effect.

Do a search on old intakes and you'll see a lot of stuff that has been posted. It may provide you with some information. There was a really lengthy thread going on it a while back.

Have you read the May 1955 HRM article about modifications to the 261? Changing from the stock single barrel to two BXOVs on a McGurk manifold made a big improvement, from 2000 rpm and up. If I had a 216 Thickston to put on a 261, I would bore and counterbore the manifold to match the head and alignment rings. It will look great and run fine. If you do not want the Thickston, let me know; I have a 261 that I want to put in a classic Chevy pickup.
