For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 | Howdy,
I am trying to decide which intake to purchase for my 250 L6. I plan on using a 390 cfm Holly and steel headers. I have read some negative comments on other boards about the Clifford in terms of fit and fuel starvation on the end cylinders.
A lot of folks seem to like the Offy.
Anyone with any direct experience please chime in, though any input will be a help.
Thanks in advance and best wishes,

That's absurd. "Fuel starvation" at the ends of a manifold makes for good blather theoretically but in reality it's just that... blather. As for fit, I've got one on my 235 and it fit just fine. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 | Hey Woody,
Thanks for the comment. I'm pretty sure, like you, lots of guys here like the Clifford. I like the design of the Clifford, too. I do know one guy who "claims" that he had burned valves on 1 and 6 "due" to the Clifford. That seemed like BS to me too. I will probably go with basically your set-up but on a 250.
BTW, how's your truck coming?
best wishes,

The offy has smaller runners. Kind of like running a tunnel ram versus running a single plane on a V8. Many that race like the cliffords better, those that are going for street manners go for offy. Your motor set-up should determine if you need the extra flow. I have owned both, yet run neither. But I can say that the construction in both cases are very good. The one nice thing that clifford has over offy is that they have a model with intergrated water jacket for water heat (needed to help atomize fuel for street). The offy does not and you would have to either use your stock exhaust heat riser or get a water heat adapter from Langdon ( www.stoveboltengineco.com). Just my subjective, unbiased observations. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 615 | I've heard the theory about the 1 and 6 starving..but not just about the Clifford...I've read that the original manifold suffers from this also. Just the nature of the beast it was stated.
Woody have you fired that engine yet? let us know how the Clifford works out..
Thanks,

GMC 302 with Clifford water-heated intake and Holley 4-bbl In the pic it has a Holley but when I bought it, he had replaced that with a 400 cfm Carter AFB. I don't have anything to compare it with but I believe Tony achieved his goal of a very streetable engine. It doesn't give me any trouble and moves out smartly. The one time that I buried my foot in it, it bogged down a bit like it was drowning in fuel but it recovered as soon as I let my foot up a tad. At any rate, I don't think that was due to the manifold. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | here's ours the clifford was a find on ebay some years ago, some minor adjustments to fit. this motor has not been run yet. But then again we're not building a hotrod truck here, she'll be a daily driver. http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view¤t=23A-1.jpghttp://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/1951otter/?action=view¤t=10A-1.jpg
