I have a 46 1.5T,it has a tach located just behind the fender on the drivers side.(RE:puzzled in N.C.in the big bolts forum)There is no cable presently attached to it.Where would I attach it if it were to be connected. This is a mechanical tach.

Mechanical tachs usually use a special distributor with a drive on it.

Mechanical tachs of that era ran off the rear of the generator. I have never seen one run off the distributor as was the case with early corvettes. The first 'vettes also ran off the generator so that is where I'd look. It isn't too likely that you still have the original generator with the tach drive and god help you in finding one.

Well said by 53moneypit. If you find a cable and drive for the generator setup, you have to make sure the water pump and generator pulley sizes are correct, or the tach won't show the proper engine speed.

early corvettes up until '63 were generator driven tachs, 63 and later were distributor driven. I believe Eckler's corvette parts sells a replacement drive kit for those generators for around 150.00 might be worth the search...
