The only one that had a listing was Fram. It had a listing for cars and trucks. My engine is of the 58-62 vintage and is reportedly out of an El Camino, so I'm assuming I should use the car filter, right? Is there actually any difference between the two? By the way I recently found that FRAM is recalling certain High Performance filters, so stay away from any # preceded by the letters HP.

The dealer installed ones were AC. The aftermarket was made by Fram. The quickest way to tell the difference is the AC uses a 5/8 wrench on the cover bolt & Fram uses a 7/8 & sometimes has a big wing nut. You must get the right cartridge even though they make replacements for the other brand.

Wix filters are generally better quality and available at NAPA.
216 bypass canisters were smaller and early 261 bypass were larger than the 235.
