Hello to all, I wanted my first post to be something usefull to someone, so here goes. I am in the process of doing the HEI distrubutor swap. Part of the modification involves filing off the hold down collar from the HEI dist. You can modify the original 235 hold down or come up with collar. A good source for the collar is McMaster-Carr. I found a two piece collar 1" diam. that fit the 250 dist perfectly.

The part number is 6436K73, this is for the aluminum 2 piece clamp on collar, descrption is as follows. 2 pc. clamp-on shaft collar 1" bore, 1-3/4 o.d. , 1/2 wide. Make sure you get the distributor hold down clamp from the donor 250 engine, it works well with this collar.

Thanks to everyone for the warm reception, Helipack I also have a 1954 3100, by the way another thing I found that made it easier for me to do this swap was to use a Dremmel with a cut off wheel to remove most of the 250 collar and then do the final filing by hand so not to over do it. Thanks again.

There was something else that McmasterCarr was a good source for, the small screws on the thortle plate on my rochestor carb., I even was able to get a tap of that size from them, try to find that at home depot. Thanks again to all for the welcome.

Just an FWIW for this thread. When I did my HEI conversion, I found my clamp at a Westlake Ace hardware store. It fit perfectly on the shaft of the ditributor. Also when i modified the distributor shaft, I used a lennth of all-thread (half inch I think)covered a section of it with black tape to protect the bushing insde the dist housing, then used some nuts to clamp it with. I then chucked it up in my drill press and used a grinder to work down the original hold down. Once close to size,I used a file and varying grits of sand paper to finish out the distributor shaft. This was before I got my lathe. Seems to work pretty good so far. I may have some pics if anyone is interested.

will a HEI work with a 6 volt system enyone try it to see if it would have spark

Nope, not enough voltage to work the module, or the coil. It's strictly 12 volt only.
