Hi,

I just took possession of a 1941 Chevy which I was told is a 1 1/2 ton. It has duallies and 7.00X 20 commercial tires on it. It has some bodacious rear leaf springs! They look much larger than needed for a 1 1/2 ton. The VIN plate is missing. Can anyone give me some tips to identify what I really bought? You can tell I am a new guy, huh?

with the 700x20 tires duals it's a 1 1/2 ton they didn't make 2 tons until later. you may have main spring with auxilary springs mounted above. Previous owner may have also built up the springs(as was case with my 38). 6 cylinder with 4 speed transmission would have been standard.The 41 would be 1st year for that body style which ran thru early 47.Check the gallery for pictures and post some of yours

Thanks! for the info. I am looking forward to this project! You are correct, ithas a 4 speed tranny and 6 cylinder engine. The engine runs great! I drove it around my farm the day it was delivered. I may have to put in a new clutch and pressure plate though. Don't know yet until I get a chance to crawl underneath and check things out. Are the clutches and pressure plates the same for all 6 cyl 4spd? or do the 1 1/2 tons have special part numbers?

1.5 tons have a larger clutch. restoration packs are available from GM. They generally ask for vehicle ID but may not require it. These packs contain original specs and a lot of the original part numbers. Would also recomend a service manual they are available from many vendors.
