I have roar coming thru the driveline when decelarating or lugging. There is slack in the drive shaft and I think it's coming from the pinion. I noticed what looks to be an adjustment bolt of some kind just back of the yoke on the driversside on the rearend. I have not been able to locate any service manuals or diagrams of the rearend for reference.Any ideas? Thanks

Its not unheard of for the differential bearings to fail. A roar during acceleration and coasting could be worn carrier bearings or a worn gear set.Have you pulled the inspection cover to check the gears for faults like pitted gears or the presence of metal in the lube oil? The picture in my repair manual doesn't seem to show a bolt as you describe on the 2 spd axle. The single speed axle has a thrust pad adjustment bolt similar to what you mention. For sure check the driveshaft support bearings and the driveshafts. You should be able to find a manual for your truck from one of the vendors listed on the Stovebolt links page.

When the rear end is assembled, it's turned in until it contacts the back of the ring gear, then backed off a few thousandth's. Under extreme load, the pinion tries to push the ring gear away - laterally - causing it to deflect. With this adjuster, the deflection is limited.
