7" Front shift
12.65" Mid shift (recommended for trucks)
A Muncie would be 16.75" (years ago I had a muncie in a 59 and it was real close to the seat when shifting)

The shifter on my 59 gmc is about 12 inches back from the bellhousing. I am using an NV4500. We may be discussing apples and oranges here because the bellhousing of a gmc v8 truck is further forward than a chevy's bellhousing. Safest bet is to get the shift location as close to stock as possible.
