Opinions are needed! I have a 55/2 with a 235 that starts sometimes and sometimes, not. I've done a search and have tried most options found to no avail. When the motor wont start, there is fuel pooled in the manifold, but the plugs are dry. Good spark, changed the points to Pertronic's unit, different coil twice. What gives here guys???. Could it be the cam has went west on me causing no vacuum? When/if it starts, it runs well albiet a tad rich. I've swapped carbs twice with units that run well on other rigs to no avail. Ive not checked the vacuum as of yet, forgot when it was running. Ideas/opinions are needed.

Let's start with is this a 6 or 12 volt ignition? Is the correct voltage present at the coil? Is the coil correct voltage (6 or 12) and have the correct resistance required for the Pertronix?

I'm assuming these are "cold" starts. Since the plugs are dry, What happens when you pour 1 or 2 ozs of gas into the carb, then try to start. PLEASE be very careful doing this.

Yes, This a cold start condition. The electrics check out for a 12V system. I see no need to pour good fuel after bad cause there is fuel pooled in the intake manifold, enough that it takes 2 shop towels to soak it up. I'm still in a quandry as to why no start.

Was the good spark observed at the spark plug? If so, then it needs to be determined why two shop towels worth of gas doesn't make into any of the cylinders. Check to see if the valves are moving open/shut.

Thanks guys, but I finally got it right. Replaced the coil again, 3rd time, and she runs like its supposed to. Still have'nt figured out why dry plugs with that much raw fuel in the intake, but it's running good and starts correctly now.
