I can't find one or even what it looks like. Can someone describe this piece or better yet post a picture of one installed?

Chevy duty sells replacement rubber but I haven't pulled mine out far enough to get a good look at it. It really isn't even necessary.

The original GM design with front engine mounts and side bellhousing mounts and NO trans mounts has been good for 52 years. Your trans doesn't even have a bracket/mounting provisions on it, does it? Have you changed anything about the engine or trans?

Do you have a '51 1/2 ton Chevrolet or GMC truck?

I just checked your profile and you have a Chevy. It is my understanding that a transmission mount was standard on 1/2 ton Chevy (torque-tube) trucks until 1954. In the 1954 Chevy 1/2 ton truck, both the motor mount location and the motor mount design was changed to match a change in the rear motor mount frame cross member. It is my understanding that 1954 is the first year that the 1/2 ton Advance Design Chevy truck transmission did not have a rear mount.
I do not know about GMC motor/transmission mounts.

Not really very strong.

I have had problems with driveline vibration that I want to solve. To that end I am replacing the shaft bushing in the torque tube and the u-joint bushings. I have watched the trans bounce around with just light vibration (cover off driving) and believe a mount (as original) is better than no mount.
If the original part is "not needed" would someone be willing to sell theirs?

In case you want a new one, check out Chevy Duty: Part # 79-204 "Complete steel and rubber bracket assembly for transmission tailshaft. 1947-1954(sic)" http://www.chevyduty.com/frame-store.html Neither American Classic Truck Parts nor Jim Carter appears to have the rear transmission mount. Your frame cross-member for this mount must still be there - right (I have heard of people taking this crossmember out - don't know if that is a good idea, but it happens)? Good luck, Tim | | |

I typed before I researched. I looked in my 48-52 Chevy Truck Shop Manual and saw in the Lubrication Diagram for the 1/2 ton the crossmember under the tail of the trans drawn in. Nothing in the trans section or any of the photos shows a rear trans mount or support, or any provisions on the trans case. My own personal experience is limited to a 50 3/4-ton with 4 speed, and it has no crossmember there or any rear trans support. Good luck!
