good morning everyone -- trying to decide whether to rebuild a carter yf single (at a cost of about $30) for my 235, or should I upgrade? -- if upgrade, what would you folks recommend? -- eventually, I am going to do a split intake if that matters -- I have the rocker arms off, rebuilt, and looking great -- by the way, the Advanced Auto solvent ($50 for 5 gallons) is a fantastic product -- oh, one more more thing: I know (or think I do) that the yf will have a filer assembly connected on top, but the engine I have has one of those large filter housings (the black one one that connects to the left intake arm with U brackets -- if I am right about the filter attaching to the top, and any of you need the older housing, let me know -- would rather deal here than on ebay -- thanks! chris

If you could post photos people would be better able to understand your questions.

If you will eventually be changing to a two carb set-up, just rebuild your existing carb and run it until you go to dual carbs (you'll most likely be asking about what carbs to use at that time, no matter what you do now).

The filter you are referring to is most likely the oil filter canister. Does it look like the unit on the left of this diagram?

By the way, what is the name of the Advance Auto Parts solvent?

hi there -- yup, that's it -- it is the canister -- I will start to post pictures -- the solvent is Nex Dimension Parts Cleaner -- I bought one of those cheap $5 plastic bins from Family Dollar, added the cleaner, and, tada, a cheap and quick parts soaker -- working like a charm and not too much of a mess -- the carb is for sure a single barrel downdraft Carter YF -- I do not think it is too far gone, so I will rebuild -- still want to get rid of the canister though -- possible? chris
