I have a guy at work who is just finishing up his 1952. He has the repro original style mirrors that appear to mount on the cowl. The right one being that strange snake looking one that apparently you see from thru the windshield instead of the door glass.

Could one of you post a photo of the placement of these mirrors? Measurements, something?

They are mounted through the holes that are visible from the inside sheet metal. On the driver's side you can see the two holes that need to be drilled through the cowl. On the passenger's side, the glove box blocks the view.

Tell him to look up under the cowl and he should see reinforcement pieces on each side that have the holes in them.

I'll tell you what, I was so thrilled with this news I just ran out there to find that it doesn't make any sense at all when looking at it. The brackets appear to mount with the holes vertical, one hole over the other. While the trucks inner cowl has no provisions for holes in that way. They look like they were horizontal but one on each side have been welded up with a metal patch!

Also, the brackets look like they would both be right sides, though totally different in shape, they both look they could only go on the right side.

Know I know why I went with peep mirrors on my truck.

You're probably not looking in the right place. Crawl up under the dash on the driver side and look up at the inside portion of the cowl just above the inner cowl panel. You will see a second structural/reinforcement looking piece that extends from the door pillar almost to the firewall. That piece has been pre-drilled with two holes, in a vertical pattern.

Those holes are there specifically for one reason... to act as guides for drilling the holes in the cowl for those mirrors. Unless your friend's truck has suffered catastrophic damage, those pieces are there... and if I'm not mistaken the procedure for installing those mirrors is covered in the Assembly Manual.

Ok, I got under there and see that there is a mess there with holes filled with bondo and what not. I went home and looked at mine and see the same as in your photo.

So, I know where to drill the holes. Does anyone have a link to a good photo of these mirrors mounted on the truck. I swear it looks like I have two right sides. They are totally different with the "Correct" right one being that snake looking thing. But the straighter "left" one looks like it could only mount on the right side.

I have searched around on the net but never find a good clear picture. It doesn't need to be a close up or anything, just a decent picture of both sides of the truck with these original mirrors.

Thanks so much guys, you are the greatest. Got it all figured out, I held them up there for him to see how they work and he says GREAT. I am thinking I may run those on my truck.

If I can find some original ones, I don't do repro.
