Should oil presuure gauge on a 216 engine fluctaute with engine rpm? I.E. the higher the rpm the higher the reading.....It's the low pressure readings I'm concerned about.

I am no mechanic, but it would seem all engines would pretty much be the same. My 350 does the same thing. Higher RPM's drives the oil pump faster, therefore, higher oil pressure. Someone here will correct me if I am wrong.

yes you are correct
all thou a a extra low oil pressure reading at ideal may be sign of: to thin oil, weak oil pump, bad cam bearings etc
if you here a light nockin or tick sound after driving it hard and coming to a stop at a idel
it might be A bearing
most likely its nothing inportent

Hello-

My 1937 216 when cold will hit 30psi, once the oil warms up and driving at 35 mph around 15psi, 3psi at idle on a hot day. I have put over 12k on that engine in the last 5 years. No problems. I run straight 30 weight. I have also used 20W50 in that engine. Remember you also have dippers on the rods. Not all is lubricated with the pump.
My Uncle bought the truck new and said he only had the valves done once, no lower end work. I have never rebuilt it. Just resealed it. 63k on the engine and going strong.

It is normal for the oil ressure gauge in a 216 to rest on the peg @ idle , this is a very low pressure oiling system that requieres volume , not pressure to keep things in proper order so as long as the needle comes off the peg as you come off the stop line , all is well .

The oil pressure gauge reads off the rocker feed line. This is a low pressure feed.
The pump flows HEAPS of oil.
