Jim Carter says it's 32 ohm. The gas tank came from Yogi's but Yogi's people and Jim Carter's people can't seem to speak the same language. Brother's has a 32 ohm replacement unit but they're on backorder and will be 2-3 weeks. The unit (the top) is about 2 3/4 inches in diameter and has 5 screws in it. Your '50 came equipped with a 0-30 ohm sending unit that matched the fuel gauge. As you are discovering, these two items need to be compatible or your reading will be bogus.
30 ohm senders are distinctive to the old Chevrolet's. Most vendors have them and the float can be easily bent to function is different tanks. I'm not familiar with 'Yogi', but it doesn't sound like a reproduction style tank.

Old chevs had 0-30 ohm senders. Modern GM is 240-33.5 ohm, and Fords use 0-90 ohm.
the SAE standard fuel sender mounting pattern is the 5-bolt pattern and 2.75" in diameter

Where do I get the fuel sending unit to match it and I presume I tell them I want it to hook up to a 0-30 ohm gas gauge? Is that enough detail or will they want more info? And again, where can you get the fuel sending unit?

The fuel gauge has been modified to work on a different volatge (12) but the resistance parameters are the same...0 to 30 ohms. Jim Carter has the matched sending units for the gauge as do many of the specialty suppliers. You just have to make sure it will fit into your 'Yogi' tank.
All the vendor has to know is that it's a sender out of an old Chevrolet truck...he should know it's a 0-30 unit.
You probably will not find something like this in a 'universal' configuration at your local auto part store. 0-90 is the common critter.

Jim Carter, as I understand, only has the ones that fit in the original gas tank. Brother's doesn't have them in stock so they're looking at 3-4 weeks. Yogi's doen't have them. Googling and checking the internet has not come up with anything.
