Finished tearing into the 235 today and found masacred main rod bearing so rather than going any further with that motor, I'm replacing it with the 261.

However, a burning question--how do you replace the oil pump if necessary? These two motors, as well as the 261 in my '56 all have two mounting bolts with round heads and no visible means of removing them. Are they not meant to be removed? Is there a repair kit available to repair them in place or? Note: The pick-up screen in the 261 is majorly clogged with gunk.

Well, here's the manual page that explains it http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955truck2/55ctsm0614.htm
But to be honest, it's been so long since I messed with one, I really don't remember the details dang

Those two "bolts" with the round heads do not get removed there is a large set screw and locknut inside the crankcase that holds the oil pump in position. Look at page 6-14 Shop manual.

The set screw must not be over-tightened when installing the replacement pump.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you. As usual, Stovebolters rule!
