I'm looking for the frame mounted spare tire carrier hardware for my 64. Was there such a thing? I can't find it anywhere, I feel like i'm going crazy.

There is such thing. There was one on eBay a little while ago that was a pickup only in Texas. I will try to track the link down.

Thanks Dellman!! I can't believe I couldn't find one in LMC truck or elsewhere. I left messages with some parts sellers on this site too.

I'm sorry but I couldn't find it. I checked the completed listings but I guess they don't keep records very far back. I'm sorry if I misled you but this mount has already been sold. I know that I have seen photos and info on it somewhere else but I am at a loss as to where it was. I will keep searching for information for you. Sorry that I couldn't be anymore help. These mounts are very rare and is probably why you have had problems finding them. If I find anything at all I will let you know.

I found this in page in my copy of the "1960-66 Chev/GMC Truck Factory Assembly Instruction Manual" It should be the mount you are looking for. At the bottom of the page it says "Models: C2502-12 and C3602-12". I hope that helps.

Hey thanks a lot, and don't sweat the ebay link... just knowing they're out there will get me motivated to find one. Really, if it looks like so much trouble, I could just look into fabricating one myself.

That looks like the one that was on my '65 short, wide bed. It was an engineering accident. It and I went around and around and around every time I had to use the spare. You could lay the spare in it and go to raise it up and the spare would fall off. Start over and it would fall off again, and again, and again. I hated it. That's why I wound up carrying my spare loose in the truck bed. Luckily no one ever stole it.

That picture looks like what is in most chevys thru the 80's. I am not positive, but the general shape and bolt assy look the same. I am looking at a newer winch set up( like on my 03), just because of the tempermental falling off issue Jay spoke of. Takes 2 people to put it up without a fight.

The 56 I am working on has the top bar, but nonething else.

Wow, I think I'm getting talked out of getting one of these things. One guy I've found that's got the hardware wants a fair chunk for his. If this is gonna be an excercise in buying a pain, I may just go the other way, let the spare roll around in the bed, and spend that money on beer.

You scoped this out much? I'd try the same thing if it worked better and wasn't to tough to install.

I have to use a floor jack to hold the bar up while I faniggle the tire into place and get the nut up far enough to hold the tire in place. I think when I restore my truck, I'm switching to the fender-mount spare tires since my '66 is a short stepside.

Bluto, if you want a carrier like that, go to a salvage yard and get one off of a Chevy or GMC up to the mid 80s. My grandpaw's 84 C-10 has one of those headaches under the bed.

I went through the same thing trying to find one. I did find one from someone on the list here, just the carrier without hardware. I was able to locate some of the hardware from LMC I think, but I don't see it in their catalog anymore. I tried to install it without much luck, it seemed to short or something. I gave up on it, but maybe I'll look at it again in the near future. You could post a parts wanted ad on this site for one and probaly find one. I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle either unless you want a completely original truck. You can mount one in the bed or like someone else said go to a junk yard and look around for one from a later model Chevy.

Appreciate the advice folks. I've gone custom elsewhere with this rig so i'm leaning away from going with the original "engineering accident" after all. I've been snooping around under new trucks, checking out the winch setups and they seem pretty slick. I'm gonna find out what matches up best and hook one of those up. If anyone paying attention to this thread has done similar work, please let us know about it. Thanks!
