My 53's fan belt needs to be replaced. What is on now is a machinery belt (all rubber - non steel cable reinforced). I suspect it should be the 'auto' type?
Any input?

My local auto parts store had the correct (but not original) replacement. One good place to check out is Tractor Supply. Sometimes they have what the auto parts places don't.

Use an automotive belt. But more important, make sure you get the right size and length, then tension the belt properly--not too loose, but don't get it so tight that you mess up the bearings in the water pump or generator.

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!

Rick- are there NAPA stores around Montreal? I have been surprised at how much stuff they have for old trucks, and if they don't have it in stock, they can get it over night. If not available north of the border, there must be a store in St Albans or Plattsburgh

Russel, my father owns an auto parts store North of Montreal (UniSelect banner) and a 6 bay garage a little farther down the road. As was the case with my Triumph TR6, there is nothing mechanical I can not get directly from the warehouse (maximum delay is 72 hours). It makes owning a daily driven '53 pickup that much easier...
