Im sure the PAINTERS here will chime in with the best method and facts. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 93 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 93 | Another option is to use a single edge razor blade to "shave the run" off. You hold the blade at 90 degrees to the panel then gradually shave off the thickest part of the run. Once you have it close, you wrap sandpaper around a paint stick or small wooden block, then sand it level. Once you have it level you can polish out. Paint stores also have a tool for this called a "run blocker" or you can order them online at autobodystore.com.
I hope this is helpful. If you press too hard there is a tendency to sand the area around the sag at the same time which can cause you to sand through the clear around the sag before getting the sag sanded out. We used a trick with a razor blade to scrape most of the sag off before sanding. If you try this GO EASY on the blade. You can easily leave nicks in the paint outside of the sag that may not sand out. If you try using a blade hold it perpendicular to the painted surface, 90° to the sag and hold it firmly. Scrape lengthwise along the sag & try not to contact the paint around the sag. Don't try to scrape it all. The closer you get to the painted surface the more chance you run of nicking the paint around the sag. When you get it close finish it off with a sanding block.
