I should have stayed in after dinner. Took my generator out to clean it up and check it out, and it slipped out of my hands. It hit the concrete floor and broke the pulley. The good news is the rest of the generator looks pretty rough and needed to be rebuilt or replaced. Now where to get another generator? I'll try the local guys, but they like the new stuff. I see Jim Carter has them, but the would the broken pulley ruin the generator as a core exchange?

Anybody have another pulley?

Normally a rebuilt generator is exchanged without the pulley. Different applications use the same generator and different belt widths. I still have a pulley puller laying around somewhere. Pulleys are not that hard to find but you need to know the belt width. I prefer to either fix generators myself, or take them to an old timer who still specializes in starters and generators. Over the counter rebuilts are thrown together by people who know they will never have to look you in the eye and don't really care.

should be an auto electric shop around the lower mainland that can rebuild or get a 6V gen, not too big a deal ... for the pulley you'll hafta find an original the right size .... or try JB Weld grin

Get in touch with these guys:

http://local.yahoo.com/info-14933626-todd-s-auto-parts-incorporated-nashville

They have been in business since those generators were new, and they have a very good rebuilding shop where they specialize in oddball electrical equipment. Anybody who can rebuild an Italian-made starter for a Russian farm tractor like they did for me recently won't have much trouble finding a pulley or rebuilding a generator for your stovebolt. They've probably got a NOS pulley on the shelf!

Or you could try Alfred Kerr in Vinton Virginia, 540-890-8388.

I dropped it off at a local shop. They are having a boo at it. I was looking at the manual and mine is a rebuilt Borg Warner, and not exactly like the originals. The originals don't have the separate pulley and fan.

I made the mistake of taking my starter for my 56 Ford 4000 tractor to a mechanic shop I use for high tech work and the bill was a little less than $300.00
That is the first and last time I take any part with an armature anywhere than an a place that specializes in rewinding motors.

All's well that ends well, I got my generator rebuilt, a new pulley and fast service for $115 Canadian. I can live with that. I now have a pulley like the factory pulley. The old was the cast iron. Glad to get rid of it. I put a coat of Zero Rust on to spiff it up.
