My '48 shop manual for the 216 says center bolts=15-20 ft-lb and end bolts=25-30.
A previous post here for a 230 said center=25-30 and end=15-25. Is this backwards?
(I know, I know....I need a 261 shop manual.) 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

The 1960 Shop Manual states "Tighten [inner] clamp bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. torque and two end clamp bolts to 25-30 ft. lbs." for both the 235 and 261 engines.

Suspect the shop manual is the correct one. What give me more trouble is how do you get a torque wrench in there? Mine seems pretty standard, but there's no way I can get it inside the manifold on the bolt. | | |
