The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Flex fan on a 250

The bearing in the water pump went out yesterday, and I figured since I have the fan off, I could replace the stock 4-blade fan with a 6-blade flex fan. I looked at one similar to this but it is only 18" in diameter and my stock on is 19" in diameter. It didn't seem like the blades flexed too much, would one of these work better since the blades do flatten out as the RPM increases and is 18 3/8" in diameter? My question is does the inch lost in diameter matter since I'd be picking up 2 more blades?

My flex-a-lite fan on my 350 moves a ton of air and we recently had high 90 degree 100% humidity weather here and the Truck kept her cool in traffic with NP's....I would say you will be fine.

We have one on our 235. Flex fan 1318 it is of good quality with SS blades and it moves a tremendous amount of air. I think its 18" in diameter. What is important are the clearances. We have one inch from the radiator face which is important for correct cooling (with a spacer installed on water pump pulley) and 3/4 inch clearance all around. We called Flex fan and they said 1/2" all around clearance would be fine depending how good your motor mounts are. They make a bit more noise at speed but they really work well in the cooling dept.
